Birkenstock is a famous shoe company, best known for its cork-soled leather sandals and clogs. Like any shoe, Birkenstocks require regular cleaning to maintain their great look. There are four main types of Birkenstock shoes, each with its own cleaning method. Before cleaning your Birkenstocks, you must understand the material they are made of.

1: Cleaning Birkenstock Suede Shoes

1. Brush away dirt and dust. Use a suede cleaning brush to clean dust and dirt from the surface of your shoes. This brush can also be used to remove dirt from insoles.

2. Use detergent. Squeeze a coin-sized amount of detergent onto a clean soft cloth and gently wipe the surface of the shoes. Any areas with dirt should be covered with a thin layer of cleaner. Don't let the shoe surface get too wet with detergent. Please use a suede-specific cleaner.

3. Let the shoes dry. Shoes need to be completely dry after applying the cleaner. After drying, brush the shoes again with a suede cleaning brush. This step restores the suede's beautiful appearance.

2: Clean Birkenstocks

1. Prepare the shoe cleaning cloth. Squeeze a coin-sized amount of leather cleaner onto a clean, soft cloth. You will use this cloth to apply cleaner to the entire leather surface of the shoe. In order to ensure that the detergent penetrates into the leather, you need to prepare enough detergent. You can also use salt and water to clean leather shoes. The most prominent advantage of this method is that it does not expose the leather shoes to too much water.

2. Clean shoes to remove scratches. You can mix salt and water or use a leather cleaning product to remove scratches from your shoes. Be careful not to get your shoes too wet. A mixture of equal parts water and white vinegar can be used to remove salt stains. Dip a shoe cleaning cloth into the vinegar-water solution and wipe the entire shoe surface. Repeat until the salt stain disappears.

3. Let the shoes dry. Allow the shoes to dry completely overnight before wearing them. Never expose your shoes to the sun.

4. Polish the shoe. Before you start, spread the newspaper on the work surface. Dip a cloth into shoe polish and rub the uppers in circular motions. When the entire shoe surface is covered with shoe polish, use a clean shoe polish cloth and still use circular motions to wipe off the shoe polish.

5. Dry the shoes. Allow the shoes to dry completely overnight before wearing them. Never expose your shoes to the sun.

6. Shine shoes. Polish the shoes in circular motions. When polishing patent leather shoes, you need to put a few drops of water on the cloth. To prevent the uppers from drying out and cracking, it is recommended to apply leather care solution at least every two years.

3: Cleaning Birkenstock Synthetic Leather Shoes

1. The cleaning method of synthetic leather is slightly different from other materials. Not all Birkenstocks are made of leather or suede. In addition to genuine leather shoes, Birkenstock also often launches some shoes made of synthetic leather. This includes EVA Malibu, Waikiki slippers, or other shoes made of polyurethane. Shoes made of synthetic leather are relatively simple to clean.

2. Remove dirt and dust. Brush off all the dirt and dust you can before washing your shoes with water and soap. It is recommended to use a stiff bristle brush.

3. Wash shoes. A damp cloth may be able to wipe all the marks off the shoe. For stubborn stains, pour a little fragrance-free laundry detergent on a damp cloth before wiping. Wipe where there is dirt.

4. Dry the shoes. Dry the shoes in a dry place out of direct sunlight. The shoes must be dry before wearing, otherwise they will be deformed.

4: Clean insoles

1. Learn how to clean insoles. Birkenstocks are built to last. As long as the insole is clean, a pair of Birkenstocks will last for many years. The insole is the place where the whole pair of shoes is most likely to emit odor. The insoles of all Birkenstocks are made of the same material, so they are cleaned in exactly the same way.

2. Regularly clean the insoles. Dirt and grass stains are the most likely to discolor insoles. You can wipe down the insoles with a damp towel every three weeks. After polishing, let the shoes hang out overnight. If the insoles are stained with mud, wipe the insoles with a damp towel that night. Be careful not to get the insole too wet.

3. Prepare cleaners at home. Try cleaning Birkenstock insoles with baking soda and water, it works great! One serving of insole cleaner is made by mixing 2 tablespoons of water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a smooth paste. If it's too runny, add more baking soda. Use an old toothbrush to gently, in circular motions, brush the homemade cleaner onto the insoles. Finally, wipe the insole clean with a damp towel.
